Throwing Terms

Anhyzer - A throw when you release your disc with the left side tilted higher than the right side (right hand, backhand throw) causing the disc to fade right.

Approach - A mid-range throw, normally considered a throw after the initial drive from the teepad.

Backhand - A a standard throw (from a right-hand perspective) where the player pulls the disc accross their chest from the shoulder opposite to the arm throwing the disc and then releases the disc forward when the arm is fully extended.

Drive - When a player throws from the tee.

Falling Putt
- When a player steps in front of their mini marker after making a putt inside 30 feet.

Forehand - Same as a side arm throw.

Hammer - A type of overhand throw when the disc is released from a vertical angle with the thumb on the inner rim. This causes the disc to fly very high and return to the ground upside-down. Similar to a Tomahawk throw, but with the opposite flipping effect in the air.

Helix - A very nice throw when pulled off. This type of throw results in an s-shaped or backwards s shaped pattern. Often used for getting around complex obstacles.

Hyzer - The exact opposite of an anhyzer throw. Disc is released with the left side tilted lower than the right (right hand, backhand) causing the disc to fade left.

Overhand - A Tomahawk or Hammer throw.

Pancake - The disc is released upside-down, a common method for skipping the disc.

Putt - A short throw (30 feet or under) towards the inside of the basket, usually with a putter.

Roller - A method used to make the disc roll on its side. One way is to throw the disc as if you would throw it like a sidearm throw but raising the disc to your shoulder (like you would throw a baseball). Another approach is to throw the disc with an extreme anhyzer. A great "roller" disc would be Discraft's "Stratus".

Sidearm - A sidearm throw is the exact opposite to a backhand throw. The sidearm throw is where the player starts out with the disc away from their body and then pulls back towards the body. This method is good for right fade flights with an overstable dics for right handers (and opposite for left handers)

Stability - Refers to the characteristics of a disc's flight. If a disc is stable it will fly straight. If it is understable, it will turn right. Overstable turns left (right hand, backhand.)

Tomahawk - A type of overhand throw when the disc is released from a vertical angle with the thumb on the outer rim. Similar to a Hammer throw, but with the opposite flipping effect in the air.

Turnover - To cause a disc to have an anhyzer flight.

Worm Burner - A disc thrown lower to the ground resulting in a shorter throw.
